Who we are
In June 1973 a meeting was held in the Carlstadt Borough Hall. This would become the first recorded meeting of the newly formed Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps. This meeting would begin the groundwork for the transition of Emergency Medical Care from the Carlstadt Fire Department Emergency Squad to the Ambulance Corps.
The minutes would list nine individuals as “Charter Members”. Additional members were also mentioned in the first minutes and are recognized as “Founding Members”
The Corps would begin serving the residents and visitors of the Borough of Carlstadt a few months later, beginning on January 1, 1974. Their first ambulance was the old Cadillac style used by the fire department. A few years later they moved up to a van style ambulance then on to the modular ambulances still used today.
Today our members work in the most up to date vehicles with modern equipment. The equipment I consistently updated. Our members, who are here to serve the community, range in age from 16 to 65 with many having over 20 years of experience.
Most importantly, our members do this on a voluntary basis and we never charge for our services. Our funding come from donations, grants and Borough stipend to the Corps. Those we serve will NEVER receive a bill from us. Any bill received marked “Ambulance Service” comes from the hospital based unit, including Paramedics.
